Every now and then, there are days when there is a sunset that makes you question everything and pushes you to the brink of existential crisis. Sunsets can be a bit depressing like that; reminding us of our mortality, fleeting time and darkness. Me, being the nostalgic kind, have always embraced the beauty and sadness of a sunset. Anyway, last weekend we had this awe-inspiring sunset! It looked like the whole sky was on fire. And every moment the sun descended more, the more the sky lit up. It was like an elaborate celebration than a gloomy goodbye. I like to think, these sunsets change people. Then again, I am also the romantic type. Have a great week, people!

Currently I am...
...eating Questbars!! I am not a person who is into hypes, specially hyped foods. But I was looking for something to satisfy my sweet tooth, and that did not taste chemically. I finally found them at our local Hyvee (grocery store). These are ridiculously expensive but freaking delicious. Right now I only buy them once or twice a week.
...drinking loads of homemade lattes and cappuccinos, as I practice frothing milk with our new espresso maker. So far I’ve demolished 3 gallons of milk in the process. They say it takes about 5 gallons of milk to master the perfect froth. I am half way there!
...reading 'Divergent', which is taking me ages to finish. Obviously this is not something I am enjoying very much. I’m still trying to stick to it to give it couple more chances to redeem itself before the ending; so that I can finally say ‘yeah, I gave it a try till the end, but it still sucked’. Yes, I have issues.
...listening to comedy channels on Spotify. Sometimes music bores me. I tend to listen to the same thing over and over. So it was kind of refreshing to stumble upon the ‘word’ section on Spotify.
...watching nothing is particular. I’m eagerly waiting for Fall TV to start. Although I’ve been eyeing the final season of 'The Killing' on Netflix. OMG, that show it soooo good‼ If you have Netflix, go watch it now.
...wearing my Sketchers Go Walk shoes everywhere. They look a bit dorky. But they are great for walking (duh). And I am finding myself making excuses to run around the block randomly.
...enjoying our new apartment, specially its proximity to so many fun places. I am thoroughly enjoying walks on the trail that is nearby. It’s quite pretty with a creek and everything.

Hello 2014 (and other updates)
Hello & Happy New Year!
It has been a while...
2013 has been such a hectic year for us. We have moved to a new state and changed apartments twice. My procrastination got the best of me; so unpacking was a very slow progress. I also haven't taken any decent pictures of my recent crafting endeavors. A few interesting updates--
1. Finally got a smartphone (iPhone 5S). So far I have taken a zillion pictures. Joining Instagram is just part of that deal I guess. If you wanna follow my WIP and what-nots, you can find me here- faraha30.
2. Started knitting again. I'm not much of a knitter, but I found some basic patterns I can easily follow and trying out those. One of my goals for 2014 is to knit more.
3. Finished some small projects (hats, scarfs, and cowls). And have several bigger projects on tow.
4. On non-crafting news, I have been spending some quality time with my Kindle. Last year, I purchased a membership from Brooklyn Public Library. And this has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Although, I have not quite finished my Goodreads reading Challenge last year (missed by only 3 books), this year I have upped my goal to 25. If you are on Goodreads or like books in general, and wanna follow me, I am here - FarahA30.
Now for 2014... I am pretty excited! I have so many plans and goals. Of course a lot of them are crafts and blog related. I hope to share them with in the upcoming months. Stay tuned.

New Year
Happy New Year!
Hi everyone! How's the new year treating you all? I've been on an impromptu blogging break the last month. Hence the lack of posts. It is mostly because my usual hobbies were replaced by some new ones momentarily. If you follow me on twitter, you probably already know I've been baking up a storm, taking silly pictures and watching way too much TV on Netflix. Although I love baking as much as I love doing crochet, I will not be sharing my baking endeavors here. This blog is still about my creative efforts on crafts and photography. Although, baking can be called creative, no?
Every new year I get tempted to make resolutions. But the problem is, no matter how well intentions I have, I end up abandoning them in a month. So this year, I did not make any personal resolution at all. It was kind of liberating to welcome the new year with an open mind instead of focusing on any particular issue. That being said, some sort of guidelines are always a good idea in some aspects of life. So here are the three resolution I would like to try this year for crafts and creativity.
- Create more original designs in crochet.
- Take more pictures.
- For any given time, reduce the number of WIPs (work in progress) to 5.
Also, I would love to network with more crafters, yarn enthusiasts and other bloggers (non bloggers are also welcome). Please feel free to follow me on twitter (@FarahA30), Pinterest (farabedin) and Flickr (farahn30). I am very frequent on twitter and usually share pictures of my ongoing projects and other interests. I have met wonderful people through it! May be even you!! ^_^ So don't be shy to message me there. Or you can also email me here: farah @ thefrillypages [dot] com .
Do you have any crafting resolution for this year? Please do tell.

Week in Pictures
Guess what? We moved again! To a new apartment! Yes, that's the reason behind my disappearance for the last couple of days. While we are settling in the new (read: clean) apartment, I've been snapping some pictures here and there. And thought I'd share some of them.
1.Spotted this tiny mushroom garden outside the kitchen window. It kinda looked like a page out of a fairy tale book. Don't know why. Watching too much TV perhaps?
2. Taking a tea break from paying bills. As usual, drinking my favorite green tea blend from Tazo, in my favorite tea mug.
3. Researching and working on a new project. Can you guess what it will be?
4. After procrastinating for a very long time, I finally managed to make my own curry powder. Recipe? Mix powdered fenugreek, mustard, chili, coriander, cumin and turmeric in 1:1:6:6:6:7 ratio.
5. Finally found a way to attach my little amigurumi heart to my key chain. It looks really adorable! Currently, it's hanging out with my Rilakuma key cover.
6. A semi-decent self portrait. Please excuse my greasy hair. (^-^)

Currently I am...
- reading some of my favorite blogs, Oh Mishka and Your Wishcake in particular, for more blogging ideas. I love these girls! They are so inspirational and creative!
- obsessed with Once Upon a Time. Who doesn't love fairytales with a twist? And I've always been a Jennifer Morrison fan; so it was quite inevitable that I'd get sucked into this. And the stories are fascinating! Every week I try to guess which fairytale they are referring to. Speaking of fairy tales, have you watched Grimm? It's like a cross between fairy tales and Buffy. Also fascinating.
- also in love with Revenge. (Yes, I watch way too much TV these days).
- listening to more soft melodies. New favorites, A Thousand Years (I know, I'm late to the party) and I Won't Give Up.
- enjoying my e-magazine subscriptions. I love me some Real Simple!
- resting more to fight the whirlwind of vertigo attacks. All the dizziness and nausea is kinda gross.
- having yogurts again. I missed it so much! I've always been a fan but stop eating because of the cold.
- a little on the edge about job search. Most of the jobs want some sort of technical experience, which I don't have. *sigh*
- content with my body and weight loss. I wasn't trying much lately, so I didn't lose much. But I didn't gain any weight either. Yay!
- falling in love with Twitter again. And connecting with people, in general. People are awesome!

Random Thoughts : On Colors
- My natural hair color is darkest brown/almost black. I say almost black because it has reddish undertones.I have chocolate brown highlights.
- I am yet to find out what my skin tone is called. I think I am a light tan. In my country I’m considered fair. :P
- On bad days I wear Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation in Shell Beige. That’s the closest color that matches my skin tone (that I have found so far).
- My current favorite colors are plum, wine red and grey.
- People find it odd that I don’t like the color green. I think to belongs to plants, not in my closet.
- After studying two years in atmospheric science, now I cannot give a straightforward answer of why is sky blue? It is all because something called Rayleigh Scattering which is a fancy term to describe how the shortest wavelength (color) of light is scattered the most. Then the question remains, why is it not violet?

10 Things About Me
I just realized, I’ve written couple of posts already but didn’t tell much about myself. Silly me! Let me introduce myself properly. My name is Farah. I’m a Bangladeshi living in Washington state. Oops! You know that already! Here are a few random things.
- I am proud to be an engineer. I have a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Environmental Engineering. Engineering taught to me embrace my inner bad ass.
- I have been practicing yoga on and off since I was 13. I am a home practitioner; still headstands are a long way to go.
- I love the taste/smell of coffee but gave it up because of its acidity. Now I’m addicted to green tea. I love it both ways – iced and hot. Tip: do not brew green tea with boiling water; it will turn bitter. Instead cool the boiling water a little (5-7 mins) before pouring over your tea.
- I cook with way too much garlic, cumin and cilantro.
- I love polka dots. ‘Nuf said.
- I am a PC girl. Although I want to switch to Mac sometimes, I don’t think I’ll ever do it.
- I am very law-abiding almost to the point of annoying. Although I’ll break social norms whenever I can.
- I can't stand the smell of clementine. It drives me nuts.
- I have a soft spot for anything sci-fi (specially TV shows). My favorites are Star Trek : TNG, Enterprise, and Eureka.
- If I could I would eat Nutella or Haleem (a traditional bengali spicy food made with pulses, grains and meat) for the rest of my life.
